this is just an edit to play on my dj sets, and i played it once and everybody wanted it right away. I couldn't help it and i can't deny how good it sounds. Originally debuted earlier this month during a set at New York City's Terminal 5, the Canadian beatsmith crafts an inescapable jam thanks to a bombastic four-on-the-floor rhythm, additional percussion and a groovy bass line. Thankfully, our boy Kaytranada wasted no time and gave the song the treatment it deserves. So we expected a remix (or several) to drop. Complimented by stunning visuals that paired #BlackGirlMagic with scenic landscapes, the song’s transparent lyrics and ethereal beauty continue to resonate. Whether you prefer the empowering defiance of tracks like “Don’t Touch My Hair” and “F.U.B.U,” or the poignant harmonies of tracks like "Weary" and "Scales," we can all agree that “Cranes In the Sky” is perfection. She and Beyoncé are the first pair of solo sisters to have number one albums - and in the same year at that. In addition to being critically praised around the world, the release even garnered the singer her first number one album on the Billboard 200 chart and a place in the history books with her sister. The Collective Thread Residency was supported in part through a commission from Downtown Art in 2019 & 2020.We’ve spent the past couple of weeks aurally immersed in Solange’s masterwork A Seat at the Table. This residency will give women/womxn identifying people of color permission to heal in a safe, open space, the opportunity to share and strengthen their often silenced voices through dance, and create a platform for communities of color to have more accessibility and exposure to the kind of art that reflects their rich and varied histories and cultures. The purpose of the residency is to provide artists access to resources to assist in strengthening their creative voices. The participating artists will develop solo work that will be premiere during the culminating showcase on Sunday, June 12 3-4PM.

The residency will consist of:ģ0 minutes of exploring whatever movement their newly discovered words or thoughts have inspired Eight to twelve dance artists will be chosen through lottery to comply with social distancing while wearing face masks and to build more authentic relationships with the artists & residency facilitator on June 4-5 & 11-12, 2022 12-3PM Location: TBA + Livestream Option. The application will be available on Monday, April 4th- 11:59 PM EST on Friday, May 20th and all applicants will be notified by 11:59 PM EST on Monday, May 23rd. Artists are invited to complete an application to be considered for participation.

This free residency is an incubator for women/womxn identifying dancers & choreographers of color ages 18+ to hone their technical skills and creative practices to develop new work through journaling, round table discussions, and movement based classes as a form of self-care. The Collective Thread Residency is an extension of MADC's annual Collective Thread Dance Festival.
